TWIST WEAVE - As a practicing artist I have come to learn the importance of having a good handle on some foundational techniques of weaving before embarking on my creatively expressively pieces. Although this may sound boring it is the basis of alll form to have an equal balance of structure and flow. In this workshop I will introduce you to another amazing native fibre plant to Australia, Lomandra Longifolia paired with the equally robust raffia fibre, learn to spiral and twist weave these natural materials around your own vessel to take home. We will explore weaving a free form shape as a basis to a plethora of other creative applications.
Time: 10 - 1pm
SUNDAY June 27th with Anaheke Metua
BANGALOW WEAVE - For years I've be experimenting with Bangalow Palm inflorescence - the fruiting body of the native Bangalow Palm. It has taught me so much about the natural world and its unique characteristics including strength, flexibility, durability, texture and malleability that make it an absolute dream to weave with. These workshops are full of information about the history, harvesting practices, storage and techniques for weaving with this beautiful natural fibre. Let me introduce you to the humble Bangalow Palm through weaving its branches into a functional and aesthetically pleasing woven bowl.
