SPIRAL WEAVE - As a practicing artist I have come to learn the importance of having a good handle on some foundational techniques of weaving before embarking on my creatively expressively pieces. Although this may sound boring it is the basis of alll form to have an equal balance of structure and flow. In this workshop I will introduce you to another amazing native fibre plant to Australia, Lomandra Longifolia paired with the equally robust raffia fibre, learn to spiral and twist weave these natural materials around your own vessel to take home. We will explore weaving a free form shape as a basis to a plethora of other creative applications.
Used across many cultures across the world and believed to be one of the very first basketry techniques made by humans, this ancient basketry technique stands the test of time.
Over the many years of teaching this technique to hundreds of beginner weavers, what I hear in the circle is always, "this is so much fun" "it is so relaxing" "i'm hooked".
I personally find it the most relaxing of techniques and I find so much joy in having a wonderful palette of colourful fibres to weave with.
Come join me in this creative weaving circle and be surprise at how simple yet satisfying this art form can really be.
